Husband of the twenty eight-year-old woman Khushboo Mehta spoke to India Today exclusively. Khushboo Mehta was celebrating her birthday at the 1Above lounge in Kamla mills and died after the fire broke out along with 13 other.

The husband, Jayesh, was with Khushboo and her friends at the lounge when the fire broke out and it is the first time he is speaking to a media house about what happened last night.

Jayesh said, “Fire broke out and everyone started running. It was total chaos; men were running ahead towards the exit, they managed to go downwards.”

“When I reached downstairs I found my wife was missing, women were behind. It seems the women feared a stampede and entered the washroom to save them from fire. They got trapped,” he added.

“I was guiding the fire brigade and also went with them twice to look for my wife, she was finally pulled out from the men’s washroom where I didn’t check earlier along with others,” Jayesh said.

“There was no ambulance or emergency medical care or team at place to help the victims.  She was rushed in a police van, her pulse was there in the van but when we reached the hospital, doctors told there was no pulse. They again found some pulse and put her on ventilator but we had lost her by then,” he concluded.

A distraught Jayesh is put up with his friends and relatives who have been consoling him since last night.
